“Overcoming Fear” – Student Kiera

Recalling about the first 2 weeks, I had a lot of difficulties with English such as difficulty communicating with friends and teachers. The teachers were very enthusiastic to teach me, my friends were sociable, but because I didn’t know English, it was difficult for me to understand what people were saying.

I realized that because my vocabulary was few, I couldn’t talk to people. So, I asked my teachers and friends to teach me more vocabularies. I was very lucky to meet a very friendly teacher who enthusiastically taught me from the most basic things. If I read it wrong or pronounce it wrong, she immediately corrects it for me. Especially, thanks to the help of international friends who helped me overcome the most difficult time when I was learning English.

In the next 2 weeks, I made a lot of progress. The teacher taught me and I could understand, although I still use google translator, but less. I could talk to everyone in English more fluently. In particular, I felt more confident when I spoke English. I was no longer self-deprecating or timid as before.  Thanks to living in an English environment, I had never really been able to speak English without knowing it. Thanks to 1:1 lessons with teachers, or group classes with international friends. And indispensable are the interesting weekend trips in Baguio… All have helped me to be more confident and overcome my fear of “English”.

I feel that the decision to study English at A&J is the best decision of my life. Thanks to English, my life has changed a lot in a positive direction. I thank everyone, thank you teachers for helping me from the first day. Thank you for helping me and teaching me many new things. This is probably the most memorable time and experience in my life in Baguio – Philippines…  I overcame my fear of “English” like that. Hope this sharing will help you have more motivation to continue on the road to conquer English.
